Jane and some friends will be performing at a lip sync soon. Yesterday they painted their shirts!

vacation week art

The Museum of Fine Arts had some fun art projects for the kids to do yesterday. The first one was supposed to look like a glass sculpture.

Next they made Calder-like mobiles. Jane's has a polar bear on it and Malcolm's has a penguin.

Last was to sculpt some clay into a nature shape. Jane made a tree with a nest, birds and cats climbing up the tree. Malcolm made a tangled thicket, a cave, and a rock with a snake on it.

This wall had shadows painted on it, we thought it was very funny!

sledding

We had fun sledding with our friends Duncan and Cassidy the other day. The weather was nice but the snow was almost too deep to do a lot in.

Malcolm didn't feel like sledding much!

Seacoast Science Center

We went back to the Seacoast Science Center yesterday. We met Nana and Grammy and had a good time. The first thing the kids did was pretend fishing.

 photo 2014-02-17_seacoast_science_center_001_zpsd7d76897.jpg

Then they piloted a ship.

 photo 2014-02-17_seacoast_science_center_003_zps57e61f9a.jpg

They had the best time with the touch tank. I had them wear bathing suits because Jane's clothes got drenched last year!

The aquarium room was a lot of fun, too.

model trains

Malcolm and I went to see an amazing set-up of model trains last weekend.

Percy was there!

Malcolm had smuggled Fluffy in his vest without me knowing!

We also went to a map exhibit.

Valentine's Day 2014

We were woken up by a phone message telling us school would be delayed two hours. There was a snow/ice storm yesterday and they felt the roads were still too slippery. That meant Malcolm didn't have preschool, which was disappointing. He worked really hard on his valentines!

Jane made us all cards!

I painted some wooden boxes to give to the kids. Now they have jewelry boxes to go in their rooms instead of keeping it all in the living room. It was cold working on them in the basement at night after they went to bed, so I'm glad that project is done!

It was also nice I finished Jane's sweater in time. It wasn't a Valentine's gift but the colors worked out.

Jane showed us all her cards and gifts when she got home.

Nate made chocolate fondue for dinner.

After a few drips on Malcolm's new shirt, we took it off!

old Jane

For the 100th day of school, the first graders dressed up as 100 year olds.

new year's in Chinatown

We were excited to go to Chinatown for the new year this year; last year there was a blizzard and Jane was sick the year before that. We walked through the park and the kids loved that the birds and squirrels came so much closer to people than at our house.

 photo 2014-02-09_1_chinese_new_year_002_zps8ba4468a.jpg

We got to see a little of the parade.

 photo 2014-02-09_1_chinese_new_year_003_zps8819daf5.jpg

There was some interesting food at Dim Sum. Jane tried everything there was, including chicken feet!

 photo 2014-02-09_1_chinese_new_year_004_zps3033d025.jpg

Malcolm was also very adventurous. He said: "this restaurant has a lot of meat!"

groundhog day

We went to Drumin Farm to celebrate Groundhog Day. The kids were anxious to see if Ms. G would see her shadow.

 photo 2014-02-02_1_drumlin_groundhog_day_001_zps478b83ad.jpg

She did, no big surprise!

 photo 2014-02-02_1_drumlin_groundhog_day_006_zps5a0ed52a.jpg

Both kids spilled their cocoa on the rug...

 photo 2014-02-02_1_drumlin_groundhog_day_007_zps1c3b5d44.jpg

... so we went outside.

 photo 2014-02-02_1_drumlin_groundhog_day_008_zps71f464ec.jpg

At this point, Malcolm was done with his outing. Nate had to take him home since he was still worn out from being sick. Jane and I visited all the animals.

We walked out to the woods.

making stuff

Jane decided to make a snowman! Again, she ate the carrot when she was done using it for a nose.

 photo 2014-02-01_1_jane_snow_002_zpsa7523705.jpg

After a trip to the yarn store, Jane wanted to learn how to knit. She's doing very well!

all warm

Ruffy and Marshmallow got new sweaters! Jane liked Marshmallow's so much that she asked me to make her a pink and purple striped sweater.
