nature walk and music

Third grade haikus were posted in these woods so we went to check it out. I guess they take them down when school ends. It's too bad we didn't get to read them but it was still nice to take a walk!

Later on our way to get ice cream we found a random piano. Jane has been teaching herself how to play the Harry Potter theme song!

end of the school year

Malcolm was happy it was the last day of school! Both kids ended up having several friends in their new classes, so they're excited for fourth and second grade.

After school we went to a pool party!

The next day Malcolm had Colin over. They played Star Wars!

father's day

Our father's day plan of seeing a live band at the local winery last year was foiled by rain, so we did it this year. We had a picnic lunch during the concert.

On our way out we saw some huge tadpoles!

root beer cookout

We had a cookout the other day, mostly so we could justify Malcolm drinking root beer. The kids think when they drink soda out of can's they're "cool dudes."

Strawberry shortcake was another given.

We picked six quarts of strawberries the other day. They're delicious!

author's day

The students in Malcolm's class had their parents come in for author's day. Each child read their book aloud to their table and showed the pictures. Malcolm wrote about an arctic hare and a polar bear.

Even though he got dressed up, he didn't want his photo taken!

After the stories were done we saw a slideshow of photos from the last two years. A lot of us were in tears!

Jane was really excited to show us what her class worked on in third grade!

We also saw projects she worked on about minerals, the Revolutionary War and the history of our town. She learned a lot this year!

spiders and frogs

For some reason the science museum was deserted on Sunday morning. We felt like we had the place to ourselves! We liked all the new exhibits.

Jane and Malcolm went to the Moon.

They were both fascinated and freaked out at the spider exhibit!

They frogs were very interesting. One of the poison dart frogs has enough venom to kill 10 people.

revolutionary field trip

I chaperoned while Jane's class visited the Concord Museum and Old North Bridge to learn all about the start of the Revolutionary War. I had a great group of five girls!

They got to punch a candle design into a piece of tin.

The weather turned out great for the first grade beach field trip, too!

I figured out very quickly that it's harder to watch three 7-year-olds at the beach than a 7- and 9-year old! We figured out a system pretty quickly where they had to at least tell me when they were running off.

The whole class! They've been together for two years.

We checked out the renovated Government Center T stop on the way home. It's a lot cleaner and brighter!
