pea pickin'

One of the vegetables at the CSA this week was pick-your-own peas. The kids loved picking them and pretending they were in the jungle!

When we got home we had a picnic in Jane's air conditioned room!

sleepover

Malcolm and Jane got to have a sleepover in Jane's room the past two nights. Here they are when they woke up.

Jane has an air conditioner and Malcolm doesn't, so his room was just too hot. They had so much fun... a little too much. The first night they slept from 9pm-6:45am and the next night was 9pm-5:45am. That's not too terrible for Jane but not enough sleep for Malcolm! Luckily it's been cooling off and he's going back to his own room tonight.

another hot day

We visited Rosalie and Nolan, along with their new puppy Cassius. Lindsay had made this fun water "blob" (as Jane called it) out of water, a tarp and duct tape. The kids had so much fun playing on it!

Rosalie and Jane were cleaning the toys with buckets of water.

Our friend Danielle with her baby son Chase came by also. I didn't get and photos but he was so cute!

Eventually we went inside to enjoy the air conditioning.

beach day!

The temperature was supposed to reach about 98 (and it did), so we headed to the beach! Being near the water felt nice and cool.

Photobucket

The waves were pretty powerful so the kids weren't tempted to go deep into the water. Malcolm wouldn't even go near it.

Lily, Nate and Tyler shared their tent with us.

We got Jane to be in this picture, too.

outdoor fun at the library

The library kicked off its summer reading program with balloon animals and a bouncy house. Malcolm picked an elephant and Jane picked a giraffe. They were fascinated watching the man create them!

playdate at the park

We had fun with our friends Gracie, Dylan and Brandon last week. They all rode bikes and then played on the adult exercise equipment. Yes, there is a kid's playground there but they are strangely always drawn to the adult part.

Jane made this little duck out of clay.

the big show

Jane and Malcolm had their big show on the last day of gymnastics last week. They looked a little nervous before they came into the room.

But they had no problem performing in front of an audience! (The batteries in my flash had just died so these next two look a little odd.)

Reagan's birthday

Jane and Malcolm's cousin turned one on Saturday! Her party was at the cottage. We arrived a few hours before the party and Jane and Malcolm wanted to do puzzles right away.

Photobucket

Then they wanted to explore the seashore. They really wanted to go in the water (and Malcolm went in fully dressed later in the day) but it was way too cold!

Malcolm found a gun:

I found a rock shaped like Maine!

Then the kids went for a bike ride.

When Grammy came she had stuff to make fruit kebabs.

Then the birthday girl arrived!

She wasn't sure what to do with the cake. It was adorable!

Time for Daddy to get her cleaned up!

Photobucket

Malcolm ate cake with his hands just like Reagan.

new farm

This isn't a new farm, but it's new to us. We're splitting a CSA share with some friends this year and we went to pick up vegetables for the first time last week. We stopped to check out the animals while we were there.

Photobucket

It's not too far from our grocery store, so I hope to combine the trip each time I go. I'm still not good at finding everything on my list AND comparison shopping while watching two kids. Hopefully it will get easier with time.

nature walk

We had a fun time eating a picnic lunch, playing and walking with our friends Ilana, Lily and Nate last week at the arboretum.

learning about bees

We participated in a class about bees at Tower Hill Botanic Garden last week. The kids did a craft and then listened to books about bees.

Photobucket

Then we went outside to look for bees. Even though it was raining, we still saw a lot!

That morning I had stopped to get the kids new rainboots. They both picked firefighter boots and they're the same size. I thought that was funny!
