reading carnival

On the last day of school the library always has a reading carnival to kick off the summer reading program. It was a lot of fun! Right when we got there we met our friends Tyler, Lily and Nate.

Malcolm played with some shaving cream.

He spun a wheel to win prizes.

Jane did some crafts.

Malcolm did well at ring toss, and won a prize.

Between the excitement of losing a tooth, the last day of school, the reading carnival and playing at a friend's house, the kids had a lot of trouble falling asleep. We think Jane was awake until after midnight.

Today we're just staying home!

last days of school

This is the second to last day of school. Jane and Malcolm were reading before the bus came.

Bye, Jane!

 photo 2013-06-25_1_bus_005_zps632e2cf6.jpg

This was actually the last day of school. You can tell it was very hot out! I hope they don't have to go so late in the year again. We had six snow days! I wish we would get rid of February vacation and get out earlier in the summer.

Malcolm and I went to Target and we saw this little Iron Man toy that was cheap. He is obsessed with him right now so I had to get it. He was very happy.

Malcolm brought a transformer outside to work on while we waited for the bus for the last time!

Jane had just lost a tooth (that jack-o-lantern looking one) in the morning so I was trying to take her picture.

Here is Jane on the first day of school.

I'm so glad she's out for the summer!

art outdoors

After art class I thought the kids could do some more painting, so we went out to the deck.

Then they decided to "clean" the deck!

last art class

During the spring the kids took an art class on Friday afternoons. Each week the teacher read a story based on an artist and then they would do a project based on it. The last week was Picasso!

 photo 2013-06-21_2_art_class_001_zpsa01f6d39.jpg

Jane and Trevor are the only lefties, and they sat at their own table. I thought that was so funny!

birds

Malcolm and I spent a lot of time waiting for Jane to come home on the bus. Since their aren't many half-day kindergartners, there are only a few kids on the bus. If one of them gets a ride home, the bus can be 15 minutes early. Most of the time we waited for about 20 minutes outside, so I figured I would photograph some birds!

classroom

We were invited to come hear Jane's class sing!

Jane had such a great teacher. We'll miss her!

dinner outside

On father's day we ate dinner out on the porch.

nice walk/ride

On father's day we went to the bike path. We went very far!

Maine

We visited Nana and Grandpa the day before father's day. The kids were investigating a chipmunk hole in the driveway.

 photo 2013-06-15_1_freeport_002_zpsc4e11f28.jpg

Malcolm had fun exploring Nana's meadow.

We went out to lunch at a new Vietnamese restaurant near Bowdoin College that was fantastic! Malcolm didn't eat anything but Jane loved it. On the way back we stopped at St. John's Bazaar. Jane rode the ferris wheel. She and Daddy are in the pink one.

 photo 2013-06-15_2_st_johns_bazaar_006_zps2ff03f2b.jpg

Both kids rode the merry-go-round. Malcolm looked so grumpy in the pictures, I'm not including any. He did like it, though!

circus

Jane's school usually has a year-end picnic, but that week was so rainy that they moved it indoors and turned it into a circus! There were clowns, raffle baskets, games and face painting.

 photo 2013-06-13_1_center_circus_001_zpsf73644ff.jpg

Lots of the bigger boys had mustaches painted, too!

 photo 2013-06-13_1_center_circus_003_zps181a35a0.jpg

The music portion was very loud, so we didn't stay much longer!

field trip

Last week Jane went on a full-day field trip to a farm. I would've loved to go with her, but siblings weren't allowed and I didn't think it was fair to stick Malcolm with a babysitter all day. Plus, Jane told us she didn't want us to go with her. I heard that she did great and her chaperone ended up being her t-ball coach from last year, so she was very comfortable with her.

Meanwhile, Malcolm and I went to the science museum with our friends Kim and Cassidy. We were able to take one car since there were only two kids!

They had a great time, and so did we!

scooters!

I decided that scooters would be a good idea, so I got some for the kids. They love their bikes, but scooters are so much more portable. They will be great for when we're on vacation. Jane chose red and Malcolm chose black. I was relieved because those were the two cheapest colors!

 photo 2013-06-12_3_scooters_003_zpse029741c.jpg

Jane loves hers, but Malcolm only used his a couple times. He has been riding his bike instead. Luckily it's age 5+ and goes up to 143 pounds, so he will get lots of use out of it later.

bowling

During a rainy afternoon, we went back to the bowling alley. The kids had fun!

 photo 2013-06-11_3_bowling_003_zps055a338f.jpg

Malcolm got tired of bowling after a while so Jane and I had to bowl for him. I think that lane was messed up because it let us have many, many chances. The game took over an hour!

Rockport

On our way from the castle to lunch, we stopped at the beach in Gloucester for a minute.

 photo 2013-06-09_2_gloucester_006_zps4c9ddda8.jpg

After lunch we went back to Halibut Point State Park. We had such a good time there last fall.

Malcolm found a nice place to rest.

The kids had so much fun with the little snails.
