We weren't totally sure what to expect from the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum. This year they halted the train ride to another town because the tracks need to be repaired and there's no money to do that. The museum was pretty small but the kids liked watching the model trains.
We did get to ride a train about 1000 feet to the end of the train yard.
The employees all used to work on trains, and they spared no detail about how signals worked, how trains ran, etc. It was all very interesting for a while but I think the kids were a little young to absorb it all. We were also very cold and wet, so we were pretty anxious to leave, although checking out the old trains was fun!
Next we headed to Great Barrington. The kids weren't interested in shops, so we just went to the library to read some books for a while. We were so full from breakfast and we weren't ready for lunch yet.
Afterwards we ate our leftover pizza (which didn't go bad in the 40 degree car!) and then to SoCo Creamery for ice cream.
After ice cream and coffee, we went north to Pittsfield to visit the Berkshire Museum.
A blue-tongued skink. I waited for quite a while for his tongue to come out, but it didn't.
A touch tank always makes the kids happy!
