new year's day

We're still not ready to attend the actual new year's eve festivities in Boston yet, so instead we went the next day to see the ice sculptures. We met our friends Lindsay, Jason, Rosalie and Nolan for lunch first, and then headed outside. Malcolm wanted to borrow my new hat for a minute in the mall!

This sculpture had an aquatic theme. It was amazing!

We walked from the Prudential building to Copley Square to see more sculptures and the girls wanted to be ahead of us.

This one had a political theme.

We stopped to look at John Singleton Copley's statue.

Then the tortoise and the hare.

The last sculpture we saw was of Jack and the Beanstalk. The kids were fascinated and wanted to read the story as soon as we got home!

We went back into the mall to get some drinks and warm up.

We stayed next to this waterfall/fountain for a long time. The kids were mesmerized by it!

Our friends had to leave but we still had some time left in the parking garage, so we went up the elevator to the top of the Prudential. The kids recognized a lot of landmarks and we saw a few planes take off and land. They liked how tiny people and cars looked.

In an unrelated note, my amaryllis from Nicole bloomed today! What great timing. I'll take it as a sign of health and happiness for 2013. Happy new year!

The ice show is beautiful! I remember seeing it one year in Boston, about 15 years ago now :)
